Action for the identification of marine habitats, migratory routes, and foraging areas of sea turtles and the development of a digital Decision Support System (DSS) for the mitigation of the effects of fisheries on sea turtles.

This commitment concerns the identification of the marine habitats, migratory routes and foraging areas of the sea turtles Caretta caretta and Chelodian mydas by the supply and installation of 200 satellite tags (in addition to the already existing) to sea turtles and the development of a digital decision support system (DSS). The objective of the action in question is the collection of the required data for the spatial distribution of sea turtles in the marine environment for their different life stages and the effective management of the challenges faced by their populations.

Step 01 Preparatory actions i. Invitation for the expression of interest and inclusion of the project in the European Regional Development Fund. ii. Carrying out of the tender by the Ministry of Environment and Energy / Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency and signature of the contract for the assignment of the work.

This commitment is planned to be implemented as part of the project ‘Οριζόντιες δράσεις διατήρησης ερπετοπανίδας και αμφιβίων ειδών,’ for which a relevant call for funding has been issued by the Sectoral Program of the NSRF (ESPA) ‘Environment and Climate Change’ 2021-2027, and the submission of a technical bulletin by NECCA (Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency) to complete its integration into the funding program is expected.
